Introduction

The Western Yacht Club is based at Kilrush Marina in Kilrush, Co. Clare on the Shannon Estuary. Kilrush Marina provides 120 pontoon berths which has excellent facilities for all its visitors. The Market Town of Kilrush is only a short 5 minute walk which provides many restaurants, bars and shops to entice any sailor to sample the fares on offer.

Our annual calendar includes dinghy and yacht racing on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings respectively during the summer months. Enjoyable cruises in company to the Aran Islands, Brandon, Fenit and Dingle are part of the many activities and events organised by the club.

1994 saw the innaugural "October Series" for the WYC. Racing is held every Sunday during the month of October with boats from clubs near and far competing in IRC and Echo handicap systems. We hope that this year will be even better than any other with competitive racing and great "craic" in the local watering holes!!

With the arrival of Class 1 status, the club moved to the forefront of yacht racing and this year we will host the West of Ireland Offshore Racing Association ( WIORA ) racing championship. A first for the WYC.

Teamed with a busy racing and cruising calender, the club also runs many courses such as Coastal Skipper, VHF, GMDSS Radio and Sea Survival.
